• Robyn Moody  :  TARDIS, Constellation 08/01/11 → 08/02/09
  • 08/01/11 → 08/02/09

Through the articulation of two devices — one audio, the other visual—, this installation embodies the aleatory and complex nature of space-time dimensions. Occupying a dimly lit corner in gallery entrance, the piece entitled TARDIS (taken from Time And Relative Dimension (or Dimensions) In Space, ref. BBC television show Dr. Who) in this case is a turntable with a randomly activated arm which endlessly recomposes Gustave Holst’s The Planets. Accompanying TARDIS, is Constellation, an arrangement of LEDs inspired by the electronic devices that have become so ubiquitous in our everyday lives. The outcome is a pragmatic if metaphorical re-examination of the infinite (and synchronous) interrelations of territories.

Workshop – Calling all gizmologists, tinkerers, electronics aficionados, and kinetics enthusiasts for an afternoon workshop and discussion session with Robyn Moody. On Saturday January 12, 2008 from 1pm to 4pm Moody will offer an informal, instructive guide in the fine art of salvaging and re-shaping abandoned objects into musical devices. Bring a disused kitchen appliance, a broken toy, anything with motorized parts. Come with your junk (bring your own batteries, if required) and leave with a mechanical musical instrument of art.
