- Patrick Bernatchez : Chrysalides 08/04/04 → 08/05/03

Centre des arts actuels Skol presents a solo exhibition by Montréal-based artist Patrick Bernatchez. Starting April 4th and running until May 3rd, 2008, Chrysalides is a multidisciplinary exhibition that examines themes of vanity, decline and alienation through the lens of the phantasmagorical. Initially presented as a series of limited and sporadic apparitions held in and around the artist’s studio, Skol is pleased to host the Montréal premiere of this otherworldly vision assembled here in its totality.
The exhibition’s opening will be held on Friday April 4 from 5pm until 9pm. The exhibition represents a body of work produced over the past year under the self-imposed theme of the Chrysalides: together, these paintings, illustrations, 35 mm films, sound and sculptural works, document the incubation and emergence of the artist’s vision of a post apocalyptic order. Bernatchez’s skillfully elaborate and complex compositions source from a coalescence of dystopian symbols and codes culled from popular culture. Self-taught, Patrick Bernatchez lives and works in Montréal. He has had solo exhibitions across Québec and participated in group shows both within Québec and internationally, most notably at the 11th Pancevo Biennale in Serbia and Monténégro. The artist is represented by Galerie Donald Browne, Montréal.
